 DEE TEE makes leveller rolls in SAE-52100/100 Cr (chrome) 6/1.2067/En-31 material, induction hardened to keep core Leveler rolls,Leveller Rolls,Stretch leveller Roll, Stretch leveler rolls,Work Roll For Rolling Mill,Intermediate Rolls, Drive Rolls,back up Roll,backup rollssoft which makes leveller rolls tough
to avoid breakage yet having hard skin to resist wear and abrasion. Induction hardened leveller rolls are straighter, harder and more wear resistant that
those treated in the conventional manner. Skin hardness is 2/3 mm. the core hardness and depth are very important for insuring uniform induction
hardening. Flame or batch hardening is not recommended.

After Induction hardening, Rolls are tempered twice to achive well tempered martensite matrix.

LEVELER ROLLS at Dee Tee are passed through center less grinder to get straightness within 0.2 mm.

Leveler rolls should pass through non destructive testing (NDT) such as magnetic particles testing and ultra sonic testing for detecting surface and sub
surface defects. Dee Tee conducts both NDT's for producing defect free rolls. Dee tee has facility to supply hard chrome plated rolls as well. A Flash
Chrome of 20 to 30 Microns is Usually Sufficient.

LEVELER ROLL dimension should be in close tolerance i-e

 
CYLINDRICITY : 10 Microns
STRAIGHTNESS : 0.1 mm
SURFACE FINISH : 0.4 RA


Diameter should be ground as matched sets. Regrinding of these rolls require the same expertise as the orignal manufacturing.
Usually 2 to 3 regrinds can be expected from a roll

 
Recommendation hardness configuration of these rolls is as under



WORK ROLLS : 61-63 HRC
INTERMEDIATE ROLLS : 59-61 HRC
BACKUP ROLLS :  54-58 HRC

Leveler rolls are meant for levelling strips. The process of levelling has two purpose first to make a surface flat and second to neutralize hidden internal  stress, causing shape defect. i.e center buckle, edge wave, cross bow, etc. Levelling is achieved by precisely bending metal strips back and forth as it is pased through series of small diameter offset rolls. A leveler uses adjustable pressure points called flights, under the roll, to raise and lower then to a precise position. mainly there are three types of levellers named after their method of shape correction in the process.

Levelers used in roller Levelling shape correction method are called Rollers Levellers. They Operate at moderate speed and results in no yield loss.Rollers  levellers can be used for certain amount of shape correction. Rollers leveller can not chage camber in a strip.

Levelers are used in tension levelling shape correction methods are called Tension Levelers. I tension Levelling the shape correction process is performed under tension. The Tension accomplished by establishing a speed differential between the entry and exit bridle rolls. Tension levelling equipment typically has several birdie rolls before and after the bending rolls. As Shown In Fig-1





Stretch Levelers are used in Stretching levelling.It is normally used for stretching sheets plates.

The Roll configuration depends upon the type of levelling machine used for required shape correction. In simplest roll Leveler rolls,Leveller Rolls,Stretch leveller Roll, Stretch leveler rolls,Work Roll For Rolling Mill,Intermediate Rolls, flatner roll,back up Roll,backup rollsconfiguration, generally five to nine rolls are spread over center equally, which are supported by their end bearings. No backup rolls support is required in these types of machines. These Rolls are generally large in Diameter.

Where shape correction in terms of length and width is required, backup rolls are also supported. Here the rolls are smaller in diameter and closer together. They are generally 11 to 19. They are usually driven. They can be 4 Hi (4 High ), 5 Hi (5 High) and 6 Hi (6 High) leveller configuration depending upon  the precision levelling applications.
