Metal Processing Rolls  manufacturer,flattner rolls manufacturer,leveller rolls  manufacturer,work rolls,work roll for rolling mill#1 A rolling mill work roll assembly comprising a hollow shaft member which is coaxially secured to or formed integrally with a work roll drive shaft and which extends coaxially in a bore of a work roll, said work roll including an annular member formed to define a rolling groove or surface of the work roll, said shaft member having a first end face and an axial hollow in said shaft member open at one end onto said first end face and closed at the other end, said closed end of said hollow constituting a first reaction surface, means integral with the shaft member adjacent said open end of said hollow to provide a second reaction surface, whereby said hollow shaft member is adapted to be axially stretched by load applying means acting on and between said first and said second reaction surfaces to cause sufficient diametrical reduction of said hollow shaft to permit insertion and removal thereof into and from its assembled position in said work roll bore, said shaft member when not so stretched having a diameter too large to permit such insertion and removal, said shaft member thereby exerting both radial loading outwardly on said work roll and axially compressive loading between the axially opposite end faces of the work roll, whereby to provide respectively radial and circumferential location and longitudinal location of said work roll with respect to said hollow shaft member.

 

#2. An assembly as in point 1 wherein said work roll comprises at least two sleeve members disposed on said hollow shaft member one at each side of said annular member in engagement therewith and exerting axial loading thereon.

#3. An assembly as in point 2 wherein the interfaces of the annular member and the sleeve members are provided with mutual keying means, whereby to ensure the members rotate together under high torque loading.

#4. An assembly as in point 1 wherein said hollow shaft member has a portion presenting a radial surface and said work roll has a radial end face, said radial surface exerting axial loading on said radial end face of the work roll.

#5. An assembly as in point1 wherein said hollow shaft member has an externally threaded portion, and wherein a nut is provided in said threaded portion to exert loading on a radial end face of the work roll.

Cold rolling mill work rolls are used for cold rolling ferrous and non ferrous metals in cold rolling mills which have forged work roll,regrinding work rollhardened work roll body and are sensitive to temperature and over heating are extremely high. Work rolls should always be used carefully. Work Roll should be cleaned by removing all dust particles and also care should be take that work rolls are is to be cleaned so that it is rust preventive. The hardness of the work Roll should be checked along and across the work roll used which should be in the range of 2 HRC(MAX) in a single work roll. Between the pair of work roll the hardness difference should be within 1 HRC.

During the rolling operation micro cracks may appear on the surface of WORK ROLLS which are mostly forged work roll,regrinding work rolldue to work hardening or due to faults which is due to slipping of the metal which is being rolled, doubling up or folds in the strip or dues to electric faults causing abrupt stoppage of the rolling mill. These defects may lead to sudden local over heating or the hardened surface of the work roll body which can result in spalling in the work roll. Use of sufficient quantity of persistent coolant is always advisable to over over heating of work rolls and attain high life of the work roll used in the rolling mill.


While REGRINDING WORK ROLLS minimum 0.25 mm material should be removed to clear work hardened layer and forged work roll,regrinding work rollminor cracks from the surface. Then work roll should undergo testing with 3% solution of nitric acid in alcohol called as Nital.The surface of the work roll should be properly cleaned with alcohol, clean and dry surface should be subjected to 3% solution of nitric acid into alcohol. Dark color appears on work roll within second on over heating, such work rolls should be again reground before use to removed overheated area. Once WORK ROLL is taken out from rolling mill it is hot and it should be naturally cooled before regrinding and similarly work rolls get hot while regrinding . The work rolls should be cooled for nearly 12 hrs before putting in service again
